IIT JEE Success Stories
I began my JEE preparation earnestly in 11th grade, even though I had taken foundation classes in 9th grade. It was my own decision to pursue engineering because I heard the joke that engineers can do anything except engineering (Mazak Kar Rahi). Now, looking back, I realize there's a lot of truth in that!
My school had a partnership with the Allen Institute, so I was taught by Allen's faculty and used their study materials, which I found to be sufficient. During the first half of my 11th grade, I had online classes. Throughout this period, I was consistent and honest with myself. Everything was going well, although my test performance never reflected that.
We were allowed to stay in school for self-study until 9 pm, and I made it a point to be there every day. We even had self-study sessions on Saturdays and other holidays. I was always regular in attending school. To be precise, I only took one day off in my entire 2-year JEE journey. I vividly recall being reprimanded for that! It significantly impacted my preparation, leading to self-doubt and anxiety about missing a day of study. Thankfully, my mentor's support helped me cover everything, and I even began revising earlier.
In my first attempt, I scored 90 percentile. In my second attempt, I couldn't bring about a major change and managed to score 92 percentile. I was so sure that I wouldn't get into an NIT, and I never even thought about IIT or JEE Advanced – it was never part of my plan. While my peers diligently prepared for the advanced exams, I focused on other assessments such as COMEDK, MHTCET, KIIT, BITSAT, VIIT, and GUJCET, where I performed commendably. I didn't prepare at all for the Advanced exam because I had already convinced myself that I couldn't do it.
This misguided belief was disproven when a colleague, with only two months' worth of preparation, secured admission into a respectable IIT MSc Course. Reflecting on my experience, I would like to share a few points:
-> Don't focus on just one subject. Make sure you practice and revise all three subjects equally. If you're weak in any of them, ensure that you're well-prepared so that you can excel in the subject if it's formula-based and direct.
-> Stay connected with your family, friends, teachers, and mentors. They are your greatest support system on this journey.
- >Have a clear mindset. Decide if you only want to aim for NIT or IIT from the beginning. This mindset is crucial – you should know what you want.
- >Avoid using social media during this crucial journey. It is the biggest distraction.
At the end, I would like to conclude by emphasizing three things that my mentor, who was also my chemistry faculty, always said. He emphasized the importance of hard work, consistency, and dedication for any JEE aspirant. "These three things are what a JEE aspirant has to be good at... then success is bound to follow," he would say. I will always be grateful to him. He has been instrumental in helping me throughout this journey and believed in me before I did. As Thomas Edison said, "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.".

Firstly, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to College Sarthi for providing me with this incredible opportunity to share my journey here.
- *Starting the Race: Embracing Challenges During the Pandemic*
Amidst the chaos of the pandemic, I witnessed firsthand the struggles of people everywhere. It ignited within me a determination to pursue engineering, a decision influenced by my inclination towards PCM - Mathematics.
Choosing engineering over medicine wasn't just a personal preference but also a nod to my parents' aspirations. Initially torn between medical and non-medical paths, I ultimately committed to non-medical, setting the stage for my journey.
- *Embracing Support and Taking Initiative*
Knowing that cracking exams like UPSC required more than just aspirations, I enrolled at Prince Academy of Higher Education in Sikar, Rajasthan. My journey began with hostel life and rigorous study schedules, underpinned by thorough coaching and meticulous preparation with past exam papers.
- *The Power of Consistency and Perseverance*
Consistency became my mantra, studying 6-8 hours daily alongside coaching sessions to secure admission into a prestigious IIT or NIT. Organic chemistry emerged as my forte, earning me the nickname "Maharaj-e-Organic" among friends. I always valued helping others over showcasing my strengths.
- *Overcoming Setbacks and Celebrating Victories*
Navigating through health issues and moments of overconfidence, I faced setbacks during weekly exams. Yet, perseverance paid off when I achieved a remarkable 97.85 percentile in my second attempt, securing admission in Electrical Engineering at NIT Surat.
- *Lessons Learned and Moving Forward*
My journey wasn't just about academic success but also about personal growth and resilience. Celebrations were modest, yet meaningful, both on campus and back in my village, where I proudly became the first to clear the JEE exam.
- *A Journey of Inspiration*
In conclusion, my journey underscores the importance of perseverance, support from institutions like College Sarthi, and the unwavering support of my family. As I embark on my chosen path in Electrical Engineering, I hope my story inspires others to pursue their dreams relentlessly.
- *Closing Thoughts*
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." - Winston Churchill
Thank you sincerely for this opportunity to share my story. May it inspire and guide others on their own paths to success.

“First of all, I didn’t know about the examination well, honestly speaking I don’t have much idea about JEE exam what
is its pattern, Difficulty level, management etc. I just heard about the IIT Entrance exam from the talks going around
me at that time, I remember it was 2019 just before corona Pandemic when I was asked about my carrier from my
parents & family and I just directly said the word IIT, so I stepped into the competitive field of entrance examination
in 2021 thinking about a great carrier & of course to support my family (a dream of every middle-class boy). So, I
joined a good coaching institute (Allen)in Jaipur initially thinking that “I will get the best teachers and Materials etc.”.
This decision was taken by me only, there is not any external force like parents & family etc. that can drive me to take
this decision forcefully.
- When I started my online coaching journey, I was 200 precent motivated & after 10 days it started exponentially
decreasing coming down to some 10 percent. I started bunking lectures, leaving assignments, exercises because it
was very tough for me to do all the stuff online & managing it was not so very easy for me. As the 11th class session
proceeded towards the end, I have nothing in my hands, lots of lectures remaining & more than 50 percent of
module was left. And getting ill for almost 15 days at the end which is very crucial makes it even more difficult for me
to cover backlogs. SO, I decided to take a break from all studies keeping in mind to release pressure from me. Then I
started learning things from my-self directly from modules of coaching which is the biggest mistake ever I have done
in whole journey. I created some notes by reading a bit of theory like titration from chemistry & waves from physics
which is quite difficult to understand. I never get relied on the coaching materials because they were only made for
toppers not for an average Genius student who keeps fighting to score some rank in mock tests. My advice is that you
should prepare your notes well enough from your understanding of lectures and from questions you have solved
from modules or any PYQ book that you referred. Primarily I used a combination of both books of good authors (E.g.
Clayden for theory) and modules for practicing some very-good problems which worked for me. You should find
yourself that what combination is good for you with must prepared notes from classes. Even though I am giving you
advice to write notes. I myself haven’t prepared proper notes at all due to the harsh situation I was facing at that
time & even unable to manage the time for everything. But at the end, when your examination comes nearby you
need your notes in your hands to get prepared for final exams. I usually not able to distribute time between subjects
during my preparation because I was weak in all subjects initially. I was not able to understand concepts from live
lectures. At that time, I was not aware about the YouTube which is the biggest resource which I have used in my
whole preparation which leads to the success finally.
So, when I entered class 12th
, a burden of clearing JEE along with good percentage in board examination comes in.
Family expectations was on its peak, because I was a bright hard-working student in school who always want good
grades. Again, I was in the same coaching but with having more burden than before due to backlogs in all three
subjects in 11th
. Again, all situations were against me, having more & more worse situations as the time Passes by.
Since it was again corona period our board exams are going to held in two parts so for scoring good in board, I keep a
hold on my Jee preparation to just score well in exams so due to this I get Deviated from JEE preparation and get busy
in attending practicals and pre-board exams at the end.
I remember the pattern of my preparation usually I watch lectures online, prepared notes roughly & sometimes I was
lazy enough to prepare notes and thought that
“Kya he Yaar Dekho Bhi sahi, likho Bhi sahi, chodo baad me bna luga ya, Kisi se le luga” but that kind of attitude
always brings backlog in your studies. Chemistry was a type of subject that I don’t like enough in all three, math was
tough for me I was almost got failed in math pre-board exam but I knew, I love math so in spite of that I scored
99/100 marks in final board exam. Physics was initially tough for me but at the end I stared loving it, the bond that
physics had with nature and its phenomena’s hits my curious brain harder to do it more. In between that all stuff
there was a time when I was struggling with the subjects so I decided to join a local coaching near my home so that I
can understand all the things specially chemistry. The instructor of chemistry was highly qualified and he taught me
by heart. He always relates a boring subject like chemistry with fundamentals of nature so I imagined all the things he
taught to me and by the time I mastered chemistry, which helped me to score a good percentile so I can say that
chemistry is a must do subject in syllabus of JEE. I enjoyed that time since I made few friends over there so joining
there was my best decision. Painful part of the story is that you will always get hurdles in every inch of your journey,
and if u think that only you are suffering in preparation, is a worst myth you can ever think off. If you are ill then many
others are also ill, if you cannot solve the PYQ’s then there are many others who are unable to solve it too. There is
one tip that will make the race super easy but I will give it in the last so that you can understand it by reading the
other half of the story. So doing all this Hussle gets me a good score of 94 percent in board examination’s but sadly
not even able to score 80 percentile in my first attempt of JEE Main so I worked hard , thinking about not to give up
every second leads me to score more than previous one (87 percentile) but still not enough to get a good rank .I
cried Infront of my father who always supported me in worst times, without caring about result and decided to give
one more shot for this exam.
-In my drop year, I decided to go outside of my comfort zone & took admission into coaching again in Jaipur & started
living in hostel, nearby my coaching. This was the first time I lived without my parents, and due to that I got nervous
after few days and started crying, when my family did a video call as usual. But after that day I become stronger
exponentially as I learned & gained experience outside of my comfort zone. But after 3 months of joining in coaching,
I heard about the notification for Jee mains examination which is going to happen 3 months earlier than expected so
it was just like a tremor, I consulted some people for the scenario & after that I took the decision to leave coaching
and do some self-study in my home because I think it will support me emotionally in my roughest phase. I also took
the decision to focus only on Jee main because due to lack of time and pressure of clearing Mains exam. I only solved
PYQ’s and despite of that I was not able to complete full syllabus in all three subjects. One of the mistakes that
people do is they think that completing whole syllabus leads them to clear exam but it is partially true. I almost
leaved 8-9 chapters which includes (waves, ray optics, permutations & combinations like important chapters etc.),
still the thing worked from me is to give attention to only those chapters which I have completed & making them
perfect by practicing questions. But I have covered the basics of some chapters that I leaved because there could be a
possibility that a formula-based question comes from that.
Now it is time to discuss the most important resource of my whole JEE preparation i.e. YouTube. it is the best
resource that any JEE / NEET aspirant can have in their preparation journey. At my initial days of preparation, I was
unaware about YouTube but in coaching I was unable to understand many chapters in subjects so when I tried it on
YouTube it was one of the easiest for me. The best online teachers that you can find on this planet is on YouTube and
for free. Some of the channels that I followed was vedantu, mathon go, physics wallah, Pankaj sir chemistry & some
small channels too. There is a saying that “It is better to have something then to have nothing”. So, I practiced them
but as I have said that there are hurdles in every inch, sadly I became ill after spending few days in my home. I
suffered from minor & major asthmatic attacks which continues for one month and finally I got recovered just before
exactly one week from my shift which is the toughest shift of April attempt (12th April 2023 shift-1).
-I haven’t opened the book in that month even I was unable to remember some formulas. Here again YouTube helps
me to revise in an organized way by doing one shots of some topics and I have also prepared short notes at last to
remember things easily specially it helps in chemistry subject.so after giving exam I started waiting for result but after
checking answer sheets I was a bit disappointed so I thought that I will get less than my first attempt (95 percentile)
But when the result came next day early in the morning when my sister told me the result, I was that much shocked
That my face was not having a single expression. I scored more than 97 percentile. My mother was quite emotional
when she came to know and I knew that my hard work, dedication, attitude let me towards success.
The major motivation that let me to clear exam is “I Will never give up; whatever the situation is I will fight till the
end not taking care about the win or loss because it’s always a win when you give your 201 percent”. When I was in
exam hall, the most important thing I came to know is to stay calm mentally, since JEE is not all about knowledge but
it is about your mental stability, composure, will power. .
